Dear Friends,

Dr Abdul kalam sworn as first citizen of India. Hmmm... Did u notice? Both the Prime Minister and the President of India are 70-odd young Bachelors. Strange coincidence? or do we have a important lesson hidden for all young people? :-)

Well! There were some mails requesting(to put it mildly) me to visit some places and write about that. So, I start the travel diary with this edition. For people who demanded a weekly edition, I should admit its difficult to bring out a edition in such a short time, but I will try to make it more frequent.

Europa Park - A real Theme Park

People who cannot go to Disney World in Paris, can settle for EUROPA PARK, near the border of France. A theme park with different sections representing different countries in Europe. In summer, it is full of people with family or girlfriends.

German section looked like Germany, well organized, neat but slightly boring. Italian and French sections were more beautiful and colorful. Russia with Apollo spacecraft as usual.

We were taken for a ride, infact many rides.J First one was setup among rugged place which made us to screammmmmmmmmmm. Find out the expression during that free fall. Everybody was screaming wildly in excitement, fear etc.. making the Europa Park - "Iyyo-Appa Park".

One good thing was that they catch u in photo while you go through the free fall and photo is displayed at the entrance. Normally u can't take picture of urself during this fast ride, so u can get the picture from them by paying some amount, i.e. 5 €. It can be even send through email. Really good idea isn't it? A complete win-win solution!!

There was a thriller ride also, which I found more noisier and un-thrilling. A voice said something scary in German at the start of the ride. "Do u think its fun? You are in for disappointment! blah blah!" etc.( I got this translated later!) As we don't know German I shouted back " Arey boss! Please scare us in English! It makes no difference to us if ur dialogues are in German'. I was even more annoyed, as I was trying to shoot the so-called "scary faces" with my camera, my cabin rotated 90 degree wasting a single shot much to my irritation. In short, many guys would rather find their wives more scarier than this show. J

An Ice show was also good where they displayed their skating skills with humor and presented it well. Some puppet shows were great brimming with creativity. A indoor space ride was the jerkiest one!! Conclusion: A nice trip worth visit!

Devdas

Saw "DEVDAS" last weekend. India is always shown as a country of Snake-charmers, religious freaks, slum dwellers, round bindis etc. in the western media. It was told in a Intercultural Seminar last week, that it is intentionally done becos Social organizations collect fund showing that India as poor country. How is connected to Devdas? Wait.

As u know "Devdas" was shown in Cannes and other film festivals. "Asoka" was another movie which traveled around the world. With due respect to those movies, we don't do any good ourselves by showing Indian kings and Zamindars riding in horses in movies and sending it on a world trip. Nuclear Test and IT development notwithstanding, there's no way to tell the German lady who asked whether we have Trains in India that Indian Railways is the largest employer in the world.

Devdas - A colorful magnum opus of the most famous tragic lover of India. Found the grand lights & colors more distracting that you miss out the pathos which is the soul of the movie. Somehow, I could sympathize more with the crying Amir khan in 'Dil Chahta hai' than Shah Rukh when he dies in front of Ish's house in Devdas.

A parting Quote:

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
